Ride for Prostate Cancer 2026

My Ride Progress

My Progress

430 kms

My Target

739 kms

Ridden heaps this last year... Blue September. You tell me what bike I'm using for each 50kms ... Gravel, mountain, road, or BMX. Aiming for 800kms ridden from now to Sept.

This September I've set myself an epic fundraising challenge to help bring down prostate cancer and support our mates.

Here's the gameplan:

I ride a heaps long distance to inspire you to dig deep towards lifesaving education, research and support.

Let's tackle prostate cancer together. Donate now. Because prostate cancer is killing people in our community. It's the most diagnosed cancer for blokes in NZ.

Your support helps provide research into treating and diagnosing prostate cancer, along with support for people affected by a diagnosis. Plus you'll be helping raise awareness so more blokes know to get tested when they need to.

Tell me what bike to ride and I'll do it.

Harder than I thought

Wednesday 19th Aug

September is going to be the hardest thing I have ever done on a bike. The last few weeks have taught me that to complete it I need to pace myself, and ignore Strava koms and segment crowns.Just focus on the ride and why I'm doing it. 739 men each year. The men my fundraising goes towards personally. While a serious topic and life altering circumstance for those affected and their families I will get this done for them and have fun doing it.Love you guys xox

Friday 14th Aug

Attempted another century ride on the same planned route as yesterday.

Actually did it... Strava crapped out on me half way around oreti beach so out comes Google maps and tracing the route taken.

102kms.

On a mountain bike.

Super stoked with that.

Had 2 river crossings that were shallower than I thought but deeper than I expected. Coming up to my knees when carrying the bike. And that's at low tide. Wonder how deep that would have been yesterday with the tide coming in.

Couldn't really tell where the stop was I took the bike picture yesterday.

It's a beautiful trip. One I would recommend anyone do. Whether cycling or walking. Driving? I imagine it could be done if you get to the crossings at lowest(?) tide. Would need a vehicle with serious off road capability.

I wonder how doing the trip in reverse would go.

Would need to seriously study the tide charts.

Thursday 13th Aug

Attempted another metric century ride on a route I'd never done. Knew when I left home that I should take my mountain bike and not my gravel bike that I treat like a road bike having put slicks on it. Still took the gravel bike.

The route was from my home in Invercargill nz out to oreti beach and follow the coast along to another township of Riverton some 40kms away. Ride around and explore Riverton and some of the beaches then take the roads home.

The bike choice is debatable. Gravel and MTB are pretty much the same in some cases. Think 90s hard tail MTB with drop bars.

I knew that high tide was at 1330 so I figured I would be fine leaving home at 0900. 27kms in and I realized I was wrong.

Riding along the seaside I came to a river crossing that I decided not to do and took a trail that I prayed the slicks would cope with. They didn't. Did 28kms.

Was a hell of a walk home. I'll take the MTB next time.

Wednesday 12th Aug

Being honest. A lot of the kms are gonna be made up of my commuting. I probably shouldn't included them. But I'll throw in a couple of 100km rides each weekend. I'm thinking round trip to gore tomorrow. Weather pending

Tuesday 11th Aug

Rode from home to waikiwi to oreti beach via bay road and back to waikiwi for work. Covered 40kms in 2 hrs. Not too bad. Explored some new roads I have never been down.

Saturday 8th Aug

Each day between now and September I'll leave it up to you to tell me which bike to ride that day... Bmx MTB gravel or road.
