No One Fights Alone

I'm fundraising for a great cause!

This Blue September I am doing a Blue Do to raise vital funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation who support Kiwi men and their families living with prostate cancer. Please support my Blue Do by making a donation to my page. Thanks in advance for your donation!

My Updates

One Step at a Time

Saturday 26th Sep
Finding out that a loved one has cancer is one thing. And then finding out that their cancer is incurable, unimaginable.

I began this journey hoping that it was just an enlarged prostate to then finding out it was prostate cancer. Next, I was sure that he would be okay with surgery to remove it. But we were told it had spread to his spine. My Dad's doctor had told him that surgery was no longer an option but he would undergo chemo to start his treatment and road to recovery. But then this week, we were told that chemo was not recommended as his cancer was incurable and needed to adjust to living with it. How can I keep being positive? Hit after hit, I'm still left feeling battered.

As my family and I adjust to this new way of living, we can only take it one step at a time.

I have always lived my life on the go, 24/7; always somewhere to be, something to do. Whilst I know that at times I need to slow down, at the same time, I need to keep on going.
If anything, such a diagnosis can be seen in a positive light as it gives me even more of a reason to advocate, and certainly a reason to keep on fighting each day as if it were my last.
This year has certainly taught me so much more than any other past years may have. I'm not saying that this has been easy, and I definitely can't guarantee that it will get any easier as we move forward either. We just know what we know for now, and that is...
...my Dad has incurable prostate cancer. It does not define him, but it has made me love him even more than I possibly thought I could for his strength and fighting spirit because of his diagnosis. Seeing my Dad and his positive outlook with everything gives me all the hope and reason to keep fighting for him.
The best we can ever do, is take things one step at a time.

Better Safe Than Sorry

Wednesday 9th Sep
I wish it didn’t take someone I love to be affected before spreading awareness. But here I am today, my life will never be the same as it once was - and for a change, it’s nothing to do with the global pandemic.
Prostate Cancer, is just like any other cancer in that it doesn’t discriminate and it can affect any one of us.
I’ve recently found myself wishing I had done certain things better, asking the right questions sooner and having noticed things a bit more. But moving forward, I know that I need to be strong in my stride now more than ever, I am campaigning to not only spread awareness but to encourage you, the reader, if not to get checked yourself if it’s applicable, but to encourage others around you.
There should never be any shame in talking about Prostate Cancer or about any illness for that matter. As a collective, we should better ourselves through the campaigning and encouragement for such important causes and through investing our energy and what resources we are able to provide and donate, to enable such incredible foundations as these to be able to create and provide the best outcomes for our society.
I urge those who have read up to this point, start the conversation or get checked if that’s what you need to do - at the end of the day, it’s better to be safe than to be sorry.
Be kind, always 💙
