Will you support my ride this Blue September? Let's tackle prostate cancer together

This September I've set myself an epic fundraising challenge to help bring down prostate cancer and support our mates.

Here's the gameplan:

I ride a heaps long distance to inspire you to dig deep towards lifesaving education, research and support.

Let's tackle prostate cancer together. Donate now. Because prostate cancer is killing people in our community. It's the most diagnosed cancer for blokes in NZ.

Your support helps provide research into treating and diagnosing prostate cancer, along with support for people affected by a diagnosis. Plus you'll be helping raise awareness so more blokes know to get tested when they need to.

Donate now.

The ABs won last night, and I had a solid win today

Sunday 7th Sep

After a week on the bike, I can say with certainty, I ain’t as young as I used to be!

But it has been a solid first week, and just like the ABs I’ve had a week I can be proud of. 272 kilometres, AND almost the entire goal donated already. Thank you all so much for contributing to the cause.

Finished up the week with a great ride in the real world. Clyde to Ophir on the Otago Central Rail Trail, and waiting for me at the end was an amazing lunch to celebrate all the fathers in the family. Beautiful meal at Pitches Store - highly recommended - and just a lovely family gathering. And on the way home I relaxed my aching body at River Rock Estate, Cromwell, with a soak in one of their private garden hot tubs. Bliss!

Tune in for more stories from Week 2. I’ll drop a few pics from today into my Gallery.

Day 1 / Ride 1 - done and dusted!

Monday 1st Sep

In a dusty old garage!

With daylight savings not having kicked in yet, it’s too tricky to get enough k’s in after work before darkness descends. So virtual riding is the ticket. Virtual doesn’t mean easy though. I’m on a metered power trainer, bluetoothed to Rouvy (look it up if you don’t know what it is!). This allows me to ride all around the world from the comfort of my own backyard.

Tonight I was in Canada (as an homage to our friends, Joe & Julie in Saskatchewan – thanks for your generous support!). A challenging 35.63km, which is a few more than my daily goal of 24.66 – but I figure it’s good to have a few k’s in the bank while I still have gas in the tank (so to speak!).

Thanks everyone who have donated so far – your generosity for this worthy cause is really appreciated. There is still plenty of time to add to the total – and it doesn’t need to be a big amount … remember, lots of littles add up to big, any amount is just as appreciated!

Until the next update …

Rog Riding on his Prostate for Prostate Progress

Sunday 24th Aug

So ... I've turned 60 and this is a big issue for us old blokes. I had prostate surgery a couple of months back, and I've just had my first ride after being very protective of a tender undercarriage since.

It's actually my first ride in six months, after a brief, but brutal handlebar v railing encounter with a bridge on the Clutha Gold Cycle Trail back in February. A few broken ribs and banged up appendages kept me quiet over the winter months.

What better incentive to get back into riding, than to quickly build some mileage, and some funds for Prostate awareness.

Will you partner with me throughout September, keep me on track, track my progress and commit some of your hard earned money to go to this worthy cause.

Pic below: Me on the right on the fateful day, riding with my youngest son, Matt who, by some miracle, avoided the marauding bridge rail.

Tackle prostate cancer together.
