Will you support my ride this Blue September? Let's tackle prostate cancer together

I have wanted to do something to fight back against cancer for a while now and I start tomorrow on the Blue September Challenge, it’s going to be a big month on the bike and some mileage I haven’t done in a long time but every km I do and every $ I raise will help a great cause, see the details below of how to get involved and I will keep you posted as we go on distance and why this is important for me to take on, cheers Flynnie.

This September I've set myself an epic fundraising challenge to help bring down prostate cancer and support our mates.

Here's the gameplan:

I ride a heaps long distance to inspire you to dig deep towards lifesaving education, research and support.

Let's tackle prostate cancer together. Donate now. Because prostate cancer is killing people in our community. It's the most diagnosed cancer for blokes in NZ.

Your support helps provide research into treating and diagnosing prostate cancer, along with support for people affected by a diagnosis. Plus you'll be helping raise awareness so more blokes know to get tested when they need to.

Donate now.

Thats a Wrap

Tuesday 30th Sep

Thats a Wrap Blue September Challenge, 739 kms in the bank, what a ride! A huge thanks to all your generous donations we are now at $1605 raised towards Prostate Cancer Awareness. Our fundraising together will help provide 53 people affected by prostate cancer with vital support from a free, nurse-led info service, nice work everyone! I have wanted to do my bit to fight back regardless of what illness you are fighting and I have one more dedication as to why I took on this challenge. When I rode my last km tonight into the Pap House Tavern, both Keri-anne and I raised our glasses and we toasted an amazing, strong, brave and courageous human, a beautiful caring person fighting a real life changing battle with the terrible illness cancer is, the whole time always looking after and caring for others, Deb Garland-Walker you are a true inspiration and we are very blessed to part of yours and the Walker Whanau and lives, cheers to you we love you all very much xxx

The Finish Line

Monday 29th Sep

Just a quick update with the end now well and truly in sight. After a day off work Friday and some decent kms, backed up with an awesome ride with Liam Flynn yesterday around the Redwoods, I am now sitting on a total of 689 kms and just 50kms left to ride over the next 2 days. Thanks heaps for your generous donations with us now at $1420 supporting Blue September. Tuesday after I ride the last km I will post my final and overall dedication behind this challenge!

One Week To Go!

Monday 22nd Sep

After a decent weekend on the bike, I am now at a total of 539 kms, 200 to go over 8 days so nicely on track! For every person battling Cancer there is always a large group of loved ones, family and friends supporting. This weeks dedication is to our beautiful daughter in law Petra, a wonderful caring and amazing young woman, right there alongside her mum everyday, together with her family as they navigate their life changing journey. Love you and proud of you Petra xx

The Rules

Friday 19th Sep

The Rules - Thought I would share the rules I set myself for the Blue September Challenge, why 739 kms? 739 Men die on average every year from Prostate Cancer.Must have one rest day a week, today is one of those (U Beauty).NO EBikes allowed, my three weapons of choice - 1. MTB for decent off road trails 2. Gravel Bike for all trails (my go to) 3. Wattbike for bad weather and night rides.Decided to go Dry for a month as well, started late August (24 days) so looking forward to a cold beer after the last few rides.Big thanks to Murtle Flynn, my lovely wife for all the support, walking Hurley, feeding me and helping me get out the door after a day at work. 420 Kms and $1200 in the bank so far, big weekend ahead!

Halftime

Monday 15th Sep

Halftime - 15 days done 15 to go, this week has had the addition of some fairly decent spring winds, but all adds to the adventure and challenge. Total now 350kms in the bank, pretty happy with that and on target so far. Big thanks to Dunny (Graham Dunn) for the ride support this week.My halftime dedication goes to a great mate and top bloke who always made me laugh and helped me keep things in perspective. Ces (Justin Gallate) was a great husband, father, son and brother, a dedicated Police Officer and Dog Handler, awarded for his bravery and then sadly taken too young as the result of a brain tumour. Top of the morning to ya mate!

A Reason

Saturday 13th Sep

This morning I woke up and with a 250km total and started to feel daunted with around 500kms still to ride, then I remembered its a challenge for a reason and more importantly I will never take for granted being able to get out on the bike any day and ride when others cant. Special mention today goes to my great mate Ricey, navigating the terrible illness that MND is and doing it with a sense of humour and always thinking about others, he is a true legend and facing a real life challenge. Had to share a photo below with Ricey making sure I helped him with a pint of Waikato at Old Farm Road and a cheeky grin to boot. Love ya mate. After this morning 293kms in the bank, bring it on!

Week One Update

Monday 8th Sep

Week one done and a great week on the bike with 165kms in the bank, with bigger rides to come well on track. Fantastic donations so far and a huge thanks for all your support of this great cause. Week one was dedicated to my father in law JC, a top man and a prostate cancer survivor 😎

Tackle prostate cancer together.
