Push for Prostate Cancer

I'm doing push-ups this Blue September. Let's tackle prostate cancer together

This September I've set myself a fundraising challenge to help bring down prostate cancer and support our mates.

Here's the gameplan:

I'm doing 100 push-ups/day (not in one go!) every day this month. I'm on track to reach my goal of 3000, and hope to match that by raising $3000.

It'd be great if you made a donation too, also helping raise funds for life-saving research and support.

Prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer for blokes in NZ, and since the start of the month I've had a number of mates share their personal challenges, making Blue September even more meaningful for me.

Your donation will also be helping raise awareness, so more of us know to get tested.

It's a great cause and I'm proud to be supporting it. Thank you for your support too.

Kind regards, Dean.

Targets met. A very satisfying result. It's been highlighted to me yet again, we need to keep a regular check on our health metrics. Thanks, Dean.

'For pricks everywhere.'

Wednesday 24th Sep

Back in 2022 Jacinda Ardern muttered "He's such an arrogant prick" under her breath after answering a series of questions from David Seymour.

It was caught on mic, and recorded in the parliamentary record.

After the acrimonious exchange went viral, the pair joined forces to sign a copy of the parliamentary record and auctioned if for charity - prostate cancer research "for pricks everywhere".

The auction raised $100,100 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Brilliant.

Thank you everyone who has sponsored my pushup challenge so far, and pushup challenges everywhere. Nationally, we're on our way to breaking through the $500,000 mark, and I'm now $1200 shy of my own personal target. Feel free to lean in!

Proud to be part of this.

Wednesday 24th Sep

This month I've had three mates share their prostate cancer journey with me, and thank me for doing this. I'm just one of over 2,500 people taking part in Blue September, and so far, together, we have raised nearly half a million dollars. It feels good to be doing my little bit. And the 100/day pushups are getting easier! I'm up to nailing them in two blocks of 50. :)

New stretch goal: $3000

Wednesday 17th Sep

That's a dollar for every pushup.  We smashed our first target of $1000 dollars early, and I'm feeling good, so why not?   Tell your mates.  It's a great cause (and a very clever way to raise money for it, I think).  Well done @prostatecancerfoundationofnewzealand  prostate.org.nz

Halfway to the goal of 3000

Tuesday 16th Sep

We smashed through the (raised) fundraising target of $1000 over a week ago, and I'm halfway there to my goal of 3000 pushups in 30 days. It's a great cause and I'm enjoying the challenge. I'm also wondering if we can possibly reach $3000...a dollar for every pushup?!Thanks to all the other donators so far, and well done Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ. https://prostate.org.nz/National total: $357,986 raised so far! Brilliant. Thanks again, Dean.

One third of the way there, 100% of the fundraising target met.

Wednesday 10th Sep

Quite proud of that, and equally impressed with the system that provides the framework for this fundraising activity.

Proud - well done team!

Thursday 4th Sep

Impact we can all be proud of - thank you for supporting this great cause.

Day 4

Thursday 4th Sep

Day 4 - 400 done, and $1000 target smashed. Brilliant team!

Day 3, 10% of the way there!

Wednesday 3rd Sep

300 done - good to have one of the office team join me for my last 20 at smoko time today. Thank you my supporters, and to all donators to this cause. I'm sitting at number 15 on the national leaderboard (aiming to raise $1000), and I see we have smashed through the $200,000 milestone nationally. Great work everyone!

First 100 done!

Monday 1st Sep

Okay so that's Day One's challenge achieved with 100 press ups completed. 40-20-20-20. Thank you to the team in the office for witnessing the first 60! 29 days to go. Thank you to all supporters so far and well done to everyone nationally on the amount raised already. It's great to be doing this with you all for such a great cause.

Thank you

Thursday 21st Aug

Okay, so what started out as a donation from me and a bit of a self challenge, has already attracted a swag of donations - thank you! I didn't expect that, so now I'll lean right into this challenge. I'm raising the bar and will aim to do 100 press-ups/day through September. I managed 50 yesterday (two x 25), so the training is going well! As Sir Peter Blake said: If it's not hard, it's not worth doing, and I'm at that age where I have a few mates already with prostate issues, so this is worth doing. Thanks for helping me support this great cause.
