The Crack Pack

Ride for Prostate Cancer

Week 4 Wrap-Up - The Final Stretch

That’s a wrap on September and The Crack Pack has absolutely crushed it. The team set out to ride 1,000km together, and ended up blowing the doors off with a massive 2,077km. Shaun led the way finishing on 708km, Barry turned into a machine and landed on 633km, Kai pushed through for 593km, and Pipi rounded things out with a hard-fought 143km.

To top it all off, on the very last day of the challenge, Barry, Pipi and Kai took on the ride out to Sterling Point, Bluff, a 33km trek through some pretty brutal conditions. It wasn’t easy, but they made it, bikes and all, and it was the perfect way to sign off the month.

And the fundraising? The Crack Pack is stoked to say they’ve raised $2,162 for Blue September. A massive thank you to every single person who sponsored, shared, or supported them along the way.

The Crack Pack came, they pedalled, they conquered.

Week 3 - Past the Finish & Still Peddling

Week 3 is in the bag and The Crack Pack is still rolling strong. Shaun pumped out another 148km, riding like he’s got a personal vendetta against rest days. Barry somehow cranked a monster 175km, like his legs are on loan from a pro team. Kai chipped in 133km, proving he can actually keep the wheels spinning when he's not busy talking smack. And even with heaps going on outside the challenge, Pipi still found time to sneak in 20km, showing us all what real commitment looks like.

That brings the team to a massive 1,262km overall with a whole week still left in the tank. The donations have been just as wild, we’ve now hit $1,903 raised! Big thanks to every single person backing us, you’re the real legends keeping this kaupapa alive.

Week 2 - Breaking Goals (and Legs)

Two weeks in and somehow we’ve already racked up 786km out of our 1000km target. Shaun’s still riding like he’s got a yellow jersey to defend, Barry’s doubled his pace like he found an extra set of legs, Kai's kept it steady at a hundy each week, and Pipi’s chipping away too.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also blown past our fundraising goal. We hit $1,168 raised by the end of Week 2. Honestly, we didn’t expect the wheels and donations to spin this fast. Massive thanks to all our sponsors and supporters, you’re all absolute legends for getting behind us.

Week 1 - Off to a strong start

Well, week one is in the bag and somehow… we’re actually off to a flyer! Between the four of us we’ve knocked out 381km, which is over a third of the way to our 1000km target already. Not bad for a bunch who thought “The Crack Pack” was a good team name.

'Mr Tour-de-Invers', Shaun Taane came out swinging with a monster 137km, clearly trying to prove age is just a number (and also that the rest of us need to harden up). Kai managed clip a clean century with a neat 100km, Barry chipped in a strong consistent 84km, and Pipi kicked us off with 60km that she covered within 2 sessions less than 24 hours apart! Not bad at all considering this is only week one!

We're actually more on pace to hit 1500kms collectively and smash the 1000km goal. The real challenge now is seeing if we can keep this momentum going… consistency may not be exactly The Crack Pack’s strong suit, but hey, miracles do happen.

Onwards to Week 2.

Let’s go team!

1,000km for Blue September

This September, our team of four at Hokonui Rūnanga Health & Social Services, proudly calling ourselves The Crack Pack, are taking on a big challenge for a big cause. We’ve set the goal of riding 1,000kms throughout September to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.

It’s all about sparking kōrero around men’s health, supporting whānau affected by prostate cancer, and doing our bit to back the Blue September campaign.

We’ll be tracking our journey all month, so keep an eye out, share our progress, and if you can, get behind us with a donation. Every kilometre (and dollar) helps. 💙
