650 blue crosses were put on display in Whangarei’s Cameron Street Mall on September 3rd, the day after Blue Friday. The crosses were to represent the number of men who die every year of prostate cancer and the hope is that next year some of the crosses will be painted out white, to show lives saved because of early detection.

PlaceMakers Whangarei made and painted up the blue crosses and handed out information flyers, face paint and blue wristbands to passersby on the day.

“We are absolutely proud to support the Blue September campaign. We hold a golf day every year and raise thousands and thousands of dollars to go towards research and awareness. We are really honoured to be involved in the Blue Cross Day as well. Hopefully it will encourage men to go and get the PSA blood test and get pro-active” (Ismae Meyers, PlaceMakers Whangarei)
